Everyone Shines at "Night to Shine"

On Friday, February 7th West Ark Church of Christ hosted their annual Night to Shine dance. Night to Shine is a prom experience put together for those with special needs aged fourteen years and older. It is run by the Tim Tebow Foundation and this magnificent night is put on at different churches all around the United States.

The night started with each King or Queen being paired up with a Buddy. That Buddy stays with them all night as they go to different fun stations. The Kings had shoe shining, a barbershop and could pick up their very own king crown. The Queens could get a corsage, get their hair and makeup done, and get tiaras. Then they could choose between riding in lavish limousines to a cheering red carpet, dancing the night away, karaoke, or a good game of bingo. If a King or Queen ever needed quiet time, they had a sensory room just for that as well.

Along with all these exciting events, a wonderful dinner was served. Thanks to volunteers, the dining room was decorated elegantly with more than enough space for everyone. There were also accommodations for those in wheelchairs. There was a wide variety of food, drinks, and desserts that everyone could enjoy. Due to special cards for each King and Queen, the Buddies were able to know everyone's allergies so dinner would be safe and enjoyable.

In total, over 800 volunteers and 327 Kings and Queens were able to make the night a success. Those volunteers included Buddies, security, transportation, medical staff, characters, and so many more.
