Anthony Alfaro and Ashlynn Flute were announced as the 2025 UAFS Homecoming King and Queen during halftime of the men’s basketball game on February 15th. The game marked the end of a week-long bustle of events, contests, and activities promoting school spirit and unity. This year’s theme was “Saved by the Bell Tower.”
Anthony represented Saved by the Gong, a combined team of the Filipino Student Association, Hmong Student Association, Japan Club, K-pop Dance and Appreciation Club, and the Vietnamese Student Association. Ashlynn represented Delta Gamma.
Other contestants for Homecoming King included John Perdomo representing Sigma Nu, Aidan Nobles representing Kappa Sigma, and Chris Dunn representing Pi Kappa Phi. Other Homecoming Queen contestants included Adison Hutchins representing Gamma Phi Beta, Claudia Simen representing the French Appreciation Club, Alyssa Voradeth representing Saved by the Gong, and Anna Capps representing Alpha Omicron Pi.

A window painting competition, hosted by the Office of Campus and Community Engagement, invited student organizations and university departments to paint windows across campus with fun, themed designs. The winners of this competition were the Campus Activities Board in first place, Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma in second place, and the Student Government Association in third place. The glass windows inside of the Campus Center were also painted by Dyllan Newell, the Coordinator of Student Activities and Civic Engagement, but were not considered in the competition due to the CACE Office hosting.
The office decorating contest gave organizations the opportunity to deck out the offices of various student services on campus, adding to both the spirited vibe and their point totals. First place went to Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu, who decorated the Financial Aid office. Second was taken by Kappa Alpha Order and Alpha Omicron Pi with the Human Resources office, and third went to Baha’i Club and the World Languages department.
The megaphone decorating competition made a comeback this year, and it was massive hit. The decorated megaphones were displayed in the hallway of the Campus Center, and ranged from decoupage to a full recreation of the belltower with paper and cardboard. Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu took first once again in this contest, followed in second by AIGA UAFS Student Group for Design and third by Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma.
Student Organizations also celebrated Valentine’s day by choreographing and performing dances for the annual competition at Dancing with the Lions on Friday the 14th. Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu claimed yet another first place win, with Saved by the Gong in second and Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma taking third.
For the donation drive competition, organizations partnered with the Dave Stevens Lions Pride Food Pantry and a local non-profit of their choice to collect nonperishable food and hygiene items for the Fort Smith and UAFS community. Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma came in third with 790 items collected, Saved by the Gong came in second with 1,374 items, and Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu swept in first with a whopping 1,854 donations.
The tailgate contest winners included Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu in first, taking the tailgate trophy, and Saved by the Gong in second, with Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma finishing in third. This brought the overall contest winners to Saved by the Gong in third, winning a prize of $100, Delta Gamma and Kappa Sigma in second with a prize of $200, and Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Nu taking the first place prize of $300.
With the combination of engaging competitions, exciting activities, and two very close basketball games against the Central Missouri Mules, it’s safe to say that this Homecoming was one for the books. Will next year top it? We can only wait and see.
