The UAFS Lady Lions improved to 6-6 on the season with a sweep against St. Mary’s and a dominant 3-1 win against St. Edwards.
The team looked absolutely unstoppable against St. Mary’s, winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-18. Outside hitters Savannah Wharton and Reagan Macha were standouts, each tallying double digit in kills and hitting over .400.
Against St. Edward’s, the Lady Lions would struggle to get going, losing the first set 18-25 as the Hilltopper defense kept points at a premium.
Their defense would hold in set 2, but a swift 4-0 then 5-1 runs would allow the Lady Lions to keep pace with the stifling Hilltopper defense. The two teams would engage in back and forth scoring until the Lions broke through, winning the set 25-22.
The Lions would continue their dominance in sets 3 and 4, winning 25-19 and 25-20 respectively.
These wins put UAFS at 9th place in the Lone Star standings, surpassing both St. Mary’s and Edward’s.
The Lady Lions look to continue their success at next week’s UAPB Tri-Match, where they’ll take on UA Monticello and UA Pine Bluff.
