Olivia Munn and John Mulaney Welcome Baby Number Two Following the Actress’s Cancer Diagnosis

September is proving to be the month of famous babies as multiple celebrity couples have celebrated the arrival of their new additions with fans. Among them are actress/musician duo Ashley Tisdale and her husband, Christopher French, who brought in daughter number two, rappers Cardi B and Offset who welcomed their third child together amid divorce, and comedian, John Mulaney, with actress, Olivia Munn, who announced the birth of their second baby on the 22nd of September.

The infamous couple got together following the unexpected split of John Mulaney and his first wife, multimedia artist Anna Marie Tendler. Before their divorce was finalized, Mulaney, once known for his comedy stand-up bits in which he expressed no desire to have any children of his own, made the controversial decision to have his first child, a son named Malcolm, with then-new partner, Olivia Munn.

Later, supporters were even more hurt on behalf of Tendler as the truth of her feelings came to light in her 2024 memoir Men Have Called Her Crazy where (Variety Magazine reports) she begins the telling of her story after her separation from the comedian, “at the start of 2021, when, after an intense period of self-harm and suicidal ideation, she was admitted to a psychiatric facility" (Tingley).

As far as their relationship goes, despite the notorious sentiments that seem to linger on Munn and Mulaney’s character years later, the pair appears to be going strong as they welcomed their daughter, Méi June Mulaney, on September 14th via surrogate. However, on a personal note, in an Instagram caption detailing the experience, Munn admitted that she “had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry [her] daughter" (Munn).

Presumably, these sensations were intensified because of the news she received earlier in April of last year, as she revealed in an interview with Vogue that she was diagnosed with an “aggressive luminal B breast cancer” (Margaux Anbouba), later found to be bilateral. Though she’s recently been cleared of the original cancer diagnosis and has officially been declared cancer-free by way of a double mastectomy, she continues to actively warn others to be aware of signs and pay attention to factors that can increase risks.

Nonetheless, Munn continues to show appreciation for Baby Mei’s delivery as she ends the, as before mentioned, Instagram post with, “[The surrogate] showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
