The Student Activities Office revealed the 2022 homecoming theme during an open planning event held Thursday. The theme will be “Wild Roarin’ West,” and the date was solidified to the week of February 14th.
The theme is one that has been long requested, according to SAO Director Stephanie London.
“For the homecoming theme every year, we kinda just ask students that are involved on campus what they would like to see,” London stated. “Wild west kept coming up for several years, but we always ended up going a different route, but this year we decided to run with it.”
The planning event was open to all students, and sought to incorporate more student opinion into the planning of events during the week.
A slideshow of proposed events was presented and attendees were given the opportunity to voice any concerns, comments, or ideas. Attendees were highly receptive to the reveal and offered many interesting ideas to SAO Event Coordinator Brock Slater.
“We were able to expand our thought process when it comes to planning these events,” Said Slater, who was hired in October. “We are very excited to see how these events turn out.”
Proposed events include: a dance contest to replace the traditional lip sync battle, a tailgate before UAFS Basketball’s game against Texas Permian Basin, and a powderpuff game between students and faculty. All events are subject to change.
“There is a lot of pressure with planning such an anticipated week,” Slater stated. “But with that comes a lot of excitement from me to put my own twist on traditions.”
Homecoming is planned for February 14-19. Stay tuned to The Lions’ Chronicle for more information as it comes out.
