UAFS’ own Applause Literary Journal launches its 33rd issue

Last Thursday, May 4th, The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith’s own international literary magazine, Applause Literary Journal launched their newest issue - Issue 33.

Applause is an online publication that publishes works of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art, and photography. Since its inception in the 80’s, Applause has had varied and constant submissions from artists and writers from UAFS.

During 2020-2021, Applause made the transition into a journal more focused on work submissions from undergraduate students nationally. This shift in the pool of accepted work has transformed the journal into a national melting pot of undergraduate writers and artists, under the belief that their work is just as strong as any published writer or graduate school student. To lift up these young creatives even further, Applause pays each accepted contributor $25.

Last Thursday, the Applause staff hosted a launch party for Issue 33. During the event, eighteen of the contributors participated in a reading of their respective works. These varied from poems, to creative writing, and even featured a breakdown of one of the visual art submissions.

The Issue went live with the launch party, and is now available for viewing at:

Some of the submissions this year are the strongest yet, but be sure to keep a look out for next year’s issue 34!
